Chai Tea Tumeric Latte
It’s just warm, comforting, delicious, and turmeric and some of the other spices might have some health benefits. You can research those yourself or just drink it because it’d good! It can be a cue to take a break in your day. Prepare a batch and sip when you are reading a book, watching whatever you are bingeing, or just sit and look out the window, or at your dog, or at a magazine or cookbook. Or just stare into space and think. Sit outside in the sun for a few minutes with it. You decide.
My recipe
3–4 cups of water
1-inch piece each of fresh turmeric and fresh ginger, peeled and grated or chopped
But don’t worry, if you don’t have fresh, use 1tsp each of dried
A cinnamon stick or 1tsp ground cinnamon
10 cloves or ½ tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4–1/2 tsp of grated fresh nutmeg (can use a micro plane grater), but again, can use ground nutmeg. I just happen to love the fresh stuff so always have it on hand.
1–2 Star Anise
1 Cardamom pod or 1/2 tsp ground Cardamom
pinch of black pepper
1/2 tsp vanilla extract or sometimes I use part of a whole vanilla bean. Remember to scrape the seeds out into the water and ad it with the bean. Vanilla beans are expensive though.
2 tea bags, preferably black tea, I use Earl Gray
Milk of choice
Sweetener of choice such as maple syrup, honey, brown sugar, coconut sugar, agave.
Add all ingredients up to tea bags to 3–4 cups of water in a pot. Bring to a low boil and then simmer on low for 10 minutes. Add 2 tea bags, simmer for 5 minutes. Strain mixture with a fine strainer into another pot or bowl Add sweetener of choice, about 2 tablespoons depending on how sweet you want it. You can adjust it to your taste.
Heat up about 1/3–1/2 cup of milk of your choice, I use Oat or coconut. Fill rest of cup with Chai. I like to have more of the Chai and less milk so experiment with what you like.
Cool down the remaining Chai and store in a jar in the fridge. It will make about 3–4 servings
My recipes are always suggestions so feel free to modify as you like if you don’t have something in the house or don’t like something in the recipe, it can be omitted.
